I’m Bobby Friedman, a New York–based writer and director. I’ve directed 10 short films and 13 music videos, and previously created a 120-minute narrative comedy series that streamed on Tubi, Amazon, and Fubo, entitled Under Cover Comic. I’m also a frequent collaborator with Grammy Award–winning songwriter Tayla Parx.

What now?

I’m currently developing my latest short film—The Damn Knicks, the true story of a lifelong Knicks fan who finally snaps and sells his own fanhood—into a feature film.

Background

I started as a performing jazz musician. After college, I became an English teacher, & started a family. After a close brush with death, my response was stand-up comedy, a sure-fire way to have my voice heard, which quickly turned into research for my narrative comedy series Under Cover Comic, still available on Amazon Prime Video.

Background

Born and raised in Staten Island and living in Brooklyn for the past 15 years, New York is at the core of everything I make. The Damn Knicks grew directly out of that obsession—with the city, and the particular madness of loyalty. The project was picked up by cinematographer and producer Joe Lumbroso, and together we created a hilarious proof of concept featuring dozens of cameos from the Knicks world. The short is currently on its festival run, with a public YouTube release planned afterward.
